Poor Press Extravaganza

Tiny (aka Lisa Gray-Garcia), poet and activist Tony Robles ,and the gang return to City Lights for an afternoon of readings that expand our class/ethnic/race/ and gender consciousness. 

POOR Press - the revolutionary bi-lingual publishing project of POOR Magazine is releasing an anthology of original stories and poetry documenting peoples crossing over from borders all over the globe in honor of the anniversary of the signing of the UN declaration on Indigenous peoples as well as several powerful new books from poverty, race, disability, migrant, youth, elder and indigenous scholars struggling with landlessness, poverty, racism, incarceration, and disability.

Los Viajes; A bi-lingual, literary, visual art anthology presenting stories, images and poems of peoples migration across borders as well as a new lens on immigration of indigenous peoples following the articles of the UN declaration on Indigenous Peoples. All the writers featured in the book wrote their stories in a series of free creative writing workshops held in shelters, community centers, and schools all over the Bay Area.

POOR Press will release five new books from poverty scholars living and struggling in the Bay Area.  The 2009 collection of authors include POOR Magazine co-editor, children's book writer, worker scholar, tenant activist and Pilipino poet Tony Robles who is releasing his first collection of short stories and poems entilted: Filipino Building Maintenance Company on POOR Press.

POOR Press
provides free, creative writing, digital arts education and publishing services to youth, adults and elders in poverty. POOR Magazine is a poor people led/indigenous people led, grassroots, non-profit, arts organization providing revolutionary media access, education and advocacy to communities struggling with poverty locally and globally.

Lisa Gray-Garcia, www.tinygraygarcia.com, is a journalist, poet and community activist. She is the founder of POOR magazine and the PoorNewsNetwork (PNN), a monthly radio broadcast and an online news service focused on issues of poverty and racism.
