Justice Should be Color-Blind
Justice should be color-blind, but we all know that it still is not.

Historically, there are many cases, perhaps thousands if not millions, disputing the blindness of justice; but when I think about this contradiction, a few cases jump to my mind...

We Must Move Beyond Politics as Usual
We Must Move Beyond Politics as Usual
By CINDY SHEEHAN

The feedback I have been receiving since I announced that I would challenge U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, for her House seat -- unless she gives impeachment the go-ahead -- has been running about 3-to-1 positive.

Petty and Cruel Dictator
"BushCo has fought the Supreme Court and Congress for the right to hold thousands of humans without their human rights of due process and they have also been strenuously committed to the strategy of torture—or “enhanced interrogation methods” as the Ministry of Truth likes to call it. A Reverend gets beaten down in the halls of Congress; nooses are being hung in the south; students are being tased on campuses and Congress is censuring Freedom of Speech…how much evidence do we need before we decide that something is profoundly wrong in present-day America?"

It's Up to Us
Journey for Humanity and Accountability, Day 14

I am lying in my hotel bed at the end of a very busy, productive, yet sad day.

About 300 people gathered today and marched the 3½ miles from the entrance of Arlington Cemetery to Congressman John Conyers' office to demand impeachment and accountability from one of the leading figures in American politics for the last four decades...

Time's Up, Congress! Impeach Now!

Journey for Humanity and Accountability, Day 14

Our Constitution established a tri-partite system of government, with the notion that each branch of government would act as a check on the other two. Unfortunately, for the last 6 years, the Republicans in Congress have largely viewed themselves as defenders of the Bush Administration, instead of a vital check on overreaching by the Executive Branch. By doing so, I believe they have acted to the detriment of our Constitutional form of government...

Let's get away from usual party politics
The feedback I have been receiving since I announced that I would challenge U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, for her House seat -- unless she gives impeachment the go-ahead -- has been running about 3-to-1 positive. Some people have offered to quit their jobs to move to California's Eighth Congressional District to help my possible campaign. People are lining up to donate and help, and I am again very grateful and touched beyond belief by the generosity and energy of my fellow Americans...

Give War a Chance
Journey for Humanity and Accountability - Day 9

Being in the Deep South has been a very interesting experience. As George's approval numbers hover down somewhere in Congress's range and approval for their war is shrinking, we have encountered very little opposition to our message, but the opposition we have encountered has been vile, abusive, and potentially dangerous...

Harming Civilians is a War Crime
The Journey for Humanity and Accountability took a two-day hiatus in Charlotte, NC while I traveled home to the Bay Area to attend the memorial service of a dear friend of mine. The rest of the group used the time in Charlotte to repair tires, rest, catch up on e-mails, and help work on the next few stops. In the meantime, to the consternation of the Democratic blogosphere, Speaker Nancy Pelosi has 7 more days to put impeachment back on the table. Very few people on these blogs recognize the fact that it's not my fault that Ms. Pelosi is not doing her job...

Strange Bedfellows
Since I announced my challenge to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi a few days ago, I have been very thrilled that issues such as impeachment and the inherent corruption of the "two" party system have been brought to the forefront of public discourse. Every interview I have done has given me the opportunity to throw the impeachment issue out there. The democratic blogosphere has predictably lined up against me and must be very frightened because they are repeating the scandalous lies of the right. Wow, the right and left are finding common ground over slandering me. I must be a uniter...

Cindy for Congress?
Well, the cat got out of the bag early as it so often does. I was going to announce on July 10 (my 50th birthday) before our Journey for Humanity that I would run against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) if she didn't put impeachment back on the table before our tour reached DC on July 23. Impeachment was never hers to take off the table as it is a Constitutional remedy for BushCo, not an optional smorgasbord choice. However, the story was leaked to the AP and we couldn't keep the big announcement under wraps...

Summer of Love ‘07: On a Journey for Humanity
The other day I came out of my short retirement due to yet another Bush flagrant abuse of power. We decided that we would walk from Atlanta to DC to gather a people’s movement for humanity. The longer BushCo are in office the less chance we have of recovering the heart and soul of our nation, saving our soldiers and the people of Iraq and Afghanistan, and saving the planet from corporate and individual waste and pollution. Impeachment, removal from office, and in a perfect world: incarceration for the criminals against humanity, are urgent and necessary steps that need to be taken today.Since the announcement of the Walk, circumstances have changed. Rev. Lennox Yearwood is not going to have his hearing for Conduct Unbecoming until the end of August, and we were going to begin our walk after his hearing on July 12th in Macon, GA. So consequently, we are going to begin our Journey on July 10th in Crawford, Texas...

Why Cindy Sheehan 'retired'

Cindy Sheehan's done it again. In 2005 she made the invisible visible. The bereaved mom of a US soldier killed in Iraq, Sheehan cried in public, cursed in public and gave public voice to what for many was until then a private question. Why did my son die, she asked the president: "What is the noble cause?"...

Cindy Sheehan's Farewell
Cindy Sheehan never set out to be the face of the antiwar movement. She was a mom thrust by an ugly circumstance and a lovely faith to the forefront of a movement that was struggling to find its voice. She gave it that voice as an honest player who spoke her mind--sometimes intemperately, often imperfectly, always sincerely--and backed up her words with actions. Her unscripted activism allowed her to succeed where others had failed in touching hearts and calling the disengaged, the disenchanted and the downright angry to believe once more in the prospect that citizens can make real the promise of the American experiment...

How Cindy Sheehan Unmasked the Democrats
Cindy Sheehan is the Founder and President of Gold Star Families for Peace. When her son Casey was killed in Iraq in the spring of 2004, she threw herself into the campaign to end the war.

Sheehan became a thorn in the side of President Bush, following him wherever he went. She camped outside the White House and established "Camp Casey" next to the Bush ranch in Crawford, Texas. Her challenge to the president was simple and heartfelt...

Good Riddance Attention Whore

I have endured a lot of smear and hatred since Casey was killed and especially since I became the so-called “Face” of the American anti-war movement. Especially since I renounced any tie I have remaining with the Democratic Party, I have been further trashed on such “liberal blogs” as the Democratic Underground. Being called an “attention whore” and being told “good riddance” are some of the more milder rebukes.

Cindy Sheehan Steps Down as the Face of the Antiwar Movement
We turn to Cindy Sheehan, who has just announced she is stepping away from the antiwar movement after two years of being the nation's most visible critic of the war in Iraq. She began speaking out against the invasion and occupation of Iraq after her twenty-four-year-old son, Army Specialist Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq in Sadr City on April 4, 2004. Cindy Sheehan made headlines around the world in August 2005, when she staged a camp out to pressure President Bush to meet her as he vacationed at his Crawford estate...

On the very early Saturday morning, eight days before Casey was killed in Baghdad, I received a phone call from him. He was still in Kuwait. Ramping Up the Call to Action: Mothers Tell Congress to End the War Now
On May 14, 2007, hundreds of women, and some men who supported them, gathered in Washington, DC, for the "Mother of a March," scheduled for the Monday after Mother's Day. Cindy Sheehan, and a group of mothers who have sons and daughters in Iraq, led a crowd of activists across downtown DC and to the Capitol Building, where they blocked a main intersection and brought traffic to a standstill for over an hour. There was a fascinating showdown between the police and the activists, civil disobedience, and arrests. Sheehan called on participants to move out of their comfort zone and to put their bodies on the line in calling for an end to the war...

Kent State 37 Years Later
First of all, I would just like to say that I am not only in favor of impeaching George Bush and Dick Cheney, but of trying them for war crimes and locking them both up in Guantanamo for the rest of their lives! I also agree with Tom (Hayden) that an "anti-war" movement is basically a self-destructive movement, because when our objectives are achieved, the movement is over. That is why we must call ourselves a "peace" movement so our movement will never end. There will always be a need for people who commit their lives to peace as strenuously as they commit their lives to the anti-war movement...

You are the grand dame of protesters. Do you see yourself as a role model for other protesters?
I don’t see myself that way. I think other people do. I just do what I have to do every day. My goal is not to be a role model for other protesters; it’s just to end the war in Iraq.

She walked down the aisle to the podium very gently, like she was walking on feathers. She's tall and muscular, but she carries herself like she's wounded, a wound like the sacred heart of Jesus.
